School History
Elementary school "Ivan Goran Kovacic" is the oldest elementary school in Slavonski Brod and one of the oldest parts of its history. The school began in 1924 as the childhood lower elementary school. It was then an all boys school, so is still remembered as a male school. Its name was changed in 1959 to honor a famous Croatian poet Ivan Goran Kovacic.
After two wars, a great earthquake, and ravaged by time, the oldest primary school became unsuitable for teaching. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Croatia, Brod - Posavina County and the town of Slavonski Brod, in 2006, the school was rebuilt.
